Rapidly changing technology has the power to alter dramatically the way we live and work. As an Island and as individuals we need to stay at the forefront of that technology or risk being left behind.

Microgaming, the world’s leading software provider to the online gaming industry, is at the forefront of cutting edge technology. It is continually pushing the boundaries of the online entertainment sector.

Few people on the Isle of Man realise that our Government is recognised internationally as being at the forefront of leading edge technology, utilising the latest systems to provide superior services to the community and good value for money for tax payers.

Speakers

Roger Raatgever, Chief Executive Officer of Microgaming and Allan Paterson, Director of Isle of Man Government’s Information System Division (ISD), look at technology of the future and how it will influence our lives both at work and at play.

Roger Raatgever is the longest serving CEO in the online gaming industry. Having joined Microgaming almost a decade ago, Roger has been instrumental in leading the company and cementing its position as the world’s largest online gaming software provider. Following his graduation from university where he majored in Marketing and Economics, Roger qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1997. He then held successful positions in the franchising industry and also in corporate finance. He moved to the Isle of Man in 2001 and was a driving force in establishing the Microgaming headquarters, which now employs over 70 people on the Island and over 1000 people worldwide.

As a founding member of eCOGRA and the IGC, Microgaming is at the forefront of many initiatives focused on setting the highest standards in the gaming industry. Roger is a strong advocate of fair gaming, responsible operator conduct and player protection. He is proud to be living and working on the Isle of Man and is passionate about contributing to the local community. The Microgaming Hospital Trust was set up by Microgaming in 2002 and has since donated significant amounts to local hospital services and charities. Microgaming is also the proud sponsor of the Island’s elite cycling team (Microgaming Team Isle of Man). Roger is married to Bronwen and has 3 young children (two of whom were born on the Island).

Allan Paterson is Director of the Government's Information Systems Division, with primary responsibility for all the Government's IT systems. Since taking up the post in 2002, Allan has taken the Isle of Man Government from a position of having outdated, unreliable systems with very high support costs to a standardised common platform. This award winning strategic programme has not only allowed existing government functions to continue in a more reliable and cost effective manner but has also laid a foundation for far reaching changes to how Government can work and deliver services in the future.

Prior to taking up his current role Allan held a series of senior positions in the private sector with international organisations, such as Bass PLC.

Allan has used this extensive experience to strong effect for Isle of Man Government with his team’s work having been recognised with awards from the British Computer Society and Cisco/IDG, as well as accreditation to ISO standards in Information Security and Service Delivery.
